Set up BOE Smart Sections

Smart Sections are sections of a BOE that you can dynamically map to one another to optimize the BOE input process in a proposal. Setting up Smart Sections lets you control which BOE sections appear for a specific estimating group or method.

In BOE View, estimators only see and interact with the Smart Sections that are relevant to them, which prevents errors in the sections that remain hidden. Your mapping determines the options they can select in list sections, as well as the subsequent text sections that appear after an option is selected. For example, if you have a Group list section with different group names as list values, a person can select their group name in the BOE. Then the text sections associated with that group name appear.

You can set up BOE Smart Sections in proposal templates and proposals. In proposals, the Smart Section setup is disabled after the first BOE is created.

Before setting up Smart Sections, create all the list sections, list values, and text sections that will be part of your setup. You should also place the sections in the desired order. When Smart Sections appear in a BOE, they appear in order as indicated in the BOE Sections proposal settings.

  1. In the BOE Sections proposal settings, click Smart Sections.
  2. The Section Mapping area contains the existing list sections, and your mapping determines their hierarchical structure. To create parent-child relationships between sections, drop a section onto another one.
    • Initially, every section is at the highest root level. These sections appear immediately in a BOE after it is added to a proposal.
    • A child section only appears in a BOE after a value is selected for the parent section.
  3. The Section Structure area reflects the hierarchy of your mapping, and it contains the list sections along with their values. The Available Sections area contains all existing text sections. Select a list value, and then select the text sections that are associated with it. Repeat for each list value.
  4. If you need to discard your changes and revert to the default setup, click Reset. (Optional)
  5. When your setup is complete, click Apply.
