Lock or unlock proposal items

Lock or unlock a PBS element or task

Locking a PBS element or task prevents changes to it. However, there are exceptions to this:

  • When items are locked, BOE Pro can still make changes in the proposal while synchronizing data.
  • You can delete a locked PBS element that has no tasks, resources, or trips.
  • You can delete a locked task that has no resource estimates or travel estimates.
  • When tasks are locked but the PBS element is unlocked, you can still edit and delete resources and trips that have no estimates.

Follow these steps to lock or unlock an element or task:

  1. In BOE View, select a PBS element or task.
  2. Next to the PBS element or task, click to lock or to unlock.
To learn about locking entire proposals, see Lock or Unlock a Proposal.
If you want a PBS element to have no tasks, resources, and trips, edit its properties and clear the Allow Estimates setting. This is different than locking the item.

Lock or unlock a BOE

Lock a BOE to prevent it from being edited and deleted. Once locked, you will be able to unlock it anytime. As with other features, roles have a permission for locking and unlocking BOEs.

Locking a BOE protects the text and any tasks associated with the BOE. However, tasks with no estimates will remain unlocked.

If you lock a BOE that is at the PBS level, the tasks in the PBS element will be locked, but the PBS element will remain unlocked.

There are different ways to lock or unlock a BOE:

  • In the BOE List, select a BOE, then click BOE Actions Lock or Unlock.
  • In BOE View, select a PBS element or task, go to its BOE on the right, then click Lock BOE or Unlock BOE.
  • On the Estimates page, lock or unlock a PBS element or task to also lock or unlock its BOE.
  • On the Proposals page, lock or unlock a proposal to also lock or unlock all of its BOEs.
