Add a BOE in BOE View

  1. In BOE View, select a PBS element or task.
  2. Go to the right of the PBS and click Create a new BOE.
  3. Enter a BOE name, then click . If a name appears automatically because the Default BOE Name proposal setting is enabled, you can change it.
  4. On the Sections tab, expand a section and enter its text, then save the section. If a section is required, you must enter text in it to create the BOE.
    • BOE sections for all proposals are set up in the BOE Section Library. Sections for a specific proposal are set up in its proposal settings.
    • When you save a section, any valid formulas in your text will be found. To continue saving, you must select which formulas to use for calculating resource estimates in tasks.
    • Click Preview Text to see how the section looks with any text and formatting you added.
    • Click Find/Replace to quickly replace some text in the sections of the BOE. (The Find/Replace BOE Sections Text feature is also available at the proposal level.)
  5. On the Calculations tab, verify that the formulas created from text in the sections are correct, and make adjustments as needed.
    • Click Add Formula to create more formulas for the BOE.
    • Double-click a formula to edit it. Alternatively, right-click a formula and click Edit.
  6. On the ERs tab, add ERs to the BOE. (Optional)
    • Click Add ER to create a new ER. In the Edit ER window that appears, enter an ER name and description, then add the base and derivative resources.
  7. On the Direct tab, assign at least one resource estimate to each formula. The amount calculated by the formula will be the resource's distributed amount of hours, equivalent heads, etc. in a task. Use 100% of the amount for one resource, or divide it among multiple resources.
    • Click Add Estimate to create more resource estimates for the BOE.
    • Double-click an estimate to edit it. Alternatively, right-click an estimate and click Edit.
    • Select an estimate and click Show Details to view or edit the resource estimate details, such as the spread curve and period.
  8. On the Travel tab, assign existing travel estimates in the proposal to the BOE, or add more estimates to it. (Optional)
    • To assign a travel estimate, right-click it and select Assign to BOE.
    • Click Add Travel Estimate to create more travel estimates for the BOE.
    • Double-click an estimate to edit it. Alternatively, right-click an estimate and click Edit.
    • Select an estimate and click Show Details to view or edit the travel estimate details, such as the spread curve and period.
  9. On the CERs tab, assign existing CERs in the proposal to the BOE, or add more CERs to it. (Optional)
    • To assign a CER, right-click it and select Assign to BOE.
    • Click Add CER to create more CERs for the BOE.
    • Double-click a CER to edit it. Alternatively, right-click a CER and click Edit.
    • Click Get CER Data and select a CER to see its derivative resource estimates.
You can set up BOE Smart Sections in a proposal to streamline the BOE input process for your team.
If you save a finalized BOE in the BOE Library, you can quickly create a BOE from the library in other proposals.
